Making a three-point turn

Making a three-point turn

  • If "three point turn" is not prohibited you can turn around on a narrow road and to change directions. You have to be careful when you make this turn and make sure you do not this turn on a curve in the road. Watch for pedestrians and wait for approaching traffic to pass.
  • Signal for a left turn and check for traffic.
  • When the way is clear (in both directions), move ahead, turning the steering wheel sharply left in the direction of the curb on the far side of the road.
  • When you have reached the left side of the road, stop and shift the car into reverse.
  • Signal for a right turn and check again that the way is still clear, turn the steering wheel sharply to the right, while backing up gradually to the other side of the path.
  • Stop and when the way is clear, drive forward.

Making a three-point turn

To make this maneuver, ensure you look in your mirrors before moving (main and right mirror and your blind spot to the right). The three key skills for this maneuver are the following:
  1. Control: Keeping the car very slow.
  2. Accuracy: Ensuring you do not strike the curb.
  3. Observations: Permanent and appropriate observation.

This is the way people would do a three point turn in America not in Europe, because Europeans drive on the left side of the road.
